Highlights of the exhibition

Ryohei Yamashita, who has been challenging the consistent theme of expressing "movement" in the contemporary art scene, will hold a solo exhibition "7 MOTIONS" at MU GALLERY in Tennoz. This exhibition, which is the culmination of his many years of exploration, offers an opportunity to return deeply to the origins of expression through a group of dynamic works.

The works on display feature iconic motifs such as athletes and samurai, and Yamashita's distinctive touch has been used to beautifully capture their powerful yet delicate movements based on interviews and sketches. These works go beyond tranquil portraits to depict the inner lives and passions of people brought out by their movements.

Ryohei Yamashita has consistently sought to find the pinnacle of beauty in the moment of human "movement," pioneering a unique genre as an artist. Every bodily movement, like cutting through the wind and dancing in the water, is captured on canvas with bold compositions and brushstrokes that make full use of his own body. He also seeks themes from the various moments that unfold from dynamic beauty, such as transposing the imaginations of athletes into landscapes and choosing the sentiments of the four seasons as subject matter, and continues to evolve.

In 2020, his work was featured as stained glass art at Gaienmae Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, demonstrating new possibilities for art in public spaces. This achievement has led to his work being widely recognized and continues to make a deep impression on many people.

This solo exhibition, held for the first time in two years in Tokyo, will feature approximately 20 oil and acrylic paintings for sale. There will also be a special exhibit of a dream collaboration with "Kingdom," realized at the direct request of manga artist Yasuhisa Hara, showcasing a new form of creativity born from the fusion of different genres. This exhibition will be a great opportunity to immerse yourself in Ryohei Yamashita's worldview while following his artistic path.
